Holiday Home Decoration Inspiration

In honor of it suddenly being December (absolutely crazy, if you ask me), I’ve been thinking about about how to decorate the apartment this holiday season. Holiday decorations can be a lot of god awful things: gaudy, tacky, overwhelming. So this year I’m trying to keep it simple with holiday decorations. And since I’ve been obsessing over all things white for our new apartment (I find it airy, clean, simple), I think it’s time to introduce a new color. Unfortunately I hate the traditional combination of green and red, and I’m really much more drawn to monochromatic decorating schemes, so I’m being somewhat boring, yet beautifully classic with the color gold.
This holiday season, I’m attempting to decorate our apartment with gold accents. The first step will be to decorate our Christmas tree with all gold. Inspiration was everywhere, especially on Pinterest.

But I shared the idea with the boyfriend and he kind of looked at me sideways with a look of sheer confusion on his face. Hence the word: attempted. So it’s time to strike a balance. A balance that appeals to my simplistic, classic, timeless yet modern taste (sorry, I had to), my boyfriend’s familiarity with big colored lights and an array of mix and match family ornaments, and finally, my boyfriend’s mother’s desire to bestow upon us a handful of those classic family ornaments.
An update soon on where we land with our very first Christmas tree.
In the meantime, tell me how you plan to decorate your home for the holidays! Are you a classic white lights kind of gal, or do you go for the colored lights? Lots of classic ornaments or just a simple string of red berries and popcorn?
